Michael is a hugely familiar figure in the health and wellbeing industry, and has helped countless people to lose weight in a sustainable way. Concerns are growing for the safety of Dr Michael Mosley after he was reported missing on the Greek island of Symi earlier this week. Many of us will likely recognise the TV doctor and diet guru from regular appearances on ITV This Morning, as well as a cluster of other shows such as The One Show, The Truth About Exercise and Lose a Stone in 21 Days.

And as well as appearing on our screens, the 67-year-old broadcaster has written several diet books such as the popular Fast 800 and 5:2 guides , and also Just One Thing , which is also the name of his BBC Sounds podcast. However, Michael didn't actually begin his career as a doctor. He initially studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University and then became an investment banker.

But after realising it was not the job for him, he decided to retrain as a doctor and studied medicine at the Royal Free Hospital in London. Following this, he joined the BBC as a Trainee Assistant Producer - and over the course of his career with the broadcaster, he worked on numerous health and science documentaries that have captivated audiences worldwide. When Michael first joined the BBC in 1985 he originally tended to work behind the camera before moving on to presenting in later years.

As a presenter he has made several series for the BBC, including Medical Mavericks, Blood and Guts, Inside.
