When Imran Khan was asked about Anushka Sharma’s ‘two-piece bikini’: “It was horribly uncomfortable”

In a recent interview, actor Imran Khan opened about the time he was asked about his co-star Anushka Sharma’s two-piece bikini during an old conversation. Imran and Anushka did Vishal Bharadwaj’s Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola together in 2013. Looking back on the incident, Imran shared that it was terribly uncomfortable as he had no idea about what say at that time.In a conversation with India Today, Imran recalled an old interview where instead of asking relevant questions, he was questioned about his co-star Anushka Sharma’s attire. “We perceived the Matru...as an issue-based film. I was thrown into a room full of people from the press and suddenly, someone asked me, ‘Is film mein Anushka ji ne two-piece bikini pehni hai. Iske baare mein aap kya kahenge?’ It was horribly uncomfortable. I thought, ‘Main kya kahoon?” the actor shared.The actor also talked about how press would bring up his uncle Aamir Khan during interviews back then for the headlines. “They would ask stuff like, ‘Aap ke mamu ne yeh film dekhi hai, unka kya kehna hai?’ They wanted to somehow get the mention of another famous person,” said the actor.The actor opened about how the press didn’t get his wry sense of humour which equated to them misunderstanding him. Imran expressed, “The media landscape has evolved today and I think people are now approaching it with a far greater sensitivity and a measure of self-regulation. At that time, everyone was in a race. My wry deadpan humour would not land and they would take things I said seriously. They would be like, ‘Oh this guy is saying this seriously’ and they would report it like that. They wouldn’t get my sarcasm or irony.” Imran also revealed that about a decade ago, he was far more guarded because the media had a “narrow” and “reductive” worldview and only wanted to change his statements to make things “spicy”.Despite his absence from films, the actor has managed to be in the news owing to his honest, candid and filter-free interviews.
