Behaviour Interactive’s latest attempt to expand the world of Dead by Daylight takes the franchise in a new co-op direction – but there’s just not enough of it. Any game can be made better with the addition of co-op. I’m a firm believer of this sentiment.
Whether in a PvE multiplayer FPS like Borderlands 3 , split-screen action adventure like It Takes Two, or even a hardcore third-person roguelike such as Returnal , history has continually proven that fun times are always guaranteed to be had with a buddy by your side. Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive recognises this too, having recently spun a new cutesy co-op shooter out of its wildly successful asymmetrical horror behemoth. It’s a perfectly fine take on the universe, yet cool character cameos and well-structured progression can only stave off repetitive gameplay and environments for so long.
If you don’t know, the Dead by Daylight spin-off in question is none other than What the Fog. Released just a couple weeks ago exclusively on PC , it definitely accomplishes its mission to do something different with the well-established horror multiverse that Behaviour Interactive has created. Sure, familiar elements such Bloodpoints, Generators, and being hooked carry over from the main game, but the emphasis in What the Fog is clearly on fast-paced co-op action as opposed to the tense, stalking gameplay loop Dead by Daylight veterans will be familiar with.
You and a pal will be blasting away waves of ghou.
