Hip-hop culture has had a huge impact on the world, from the music to language, fashion and art. Minnesota Museum of American Art Assistant Curator Kylie Linh Hoang will take a look at how the music and aesthetics made their marks on Minnesota life in a gallery talk, “Beyond the Blackbook: Minnesota Graffiti Culture and Influence.” Thursday The talk will look at the foundations of hip-hop culture in the community and how spray painted art has expanded its reach.

This free event starts with a social at 6 p.m., Thursday, at Moorhead’s Rourke Art Gallery + Museum with the talk starting at 6:30.

Friday Fargo native John Kennedy wants to kick off summer with a laugh. The Fargo native returns Friday for a stand-up set at The Hall at Fargo Brewing and he’s bringing some friends with him. Now living and working in New York, the comic was last seen locally as part of the Fargo Comedy Fest earlier this year.
