Twinkle Khanna disclosed that a "foolish relative" once made a comment about the skin color of her and Akshay Kumar's daughter Nitara Kumar. In her latest column for The Times of India , the 50-year-old Indian author discussed the positive impact of reading on children. The Badshaah actress shared an anecdote about how a book aided her daughter when she contemplated quitting swimming following a remark from a relative, who compared Nitara's skin tone to that of her brother Aarav.

Twinkle revealed, "There was a time when my little one (Nitara) wanted to discontinue her swimming lessons. A tan had become her nemesis. ‘I want to be the same colour as bhaiya (brother).



’ A chance remark by a foolish relative within her earshot had not gone unnoticed. ‘She is so cute but not as fair as her brother!’" "I gave her (Nitara) Frida Kahlo’s illustrated biography. Gleaming skin of a shade not unlike hers, with eyebrows that met in the centre, a formidably talented woman as a role model.

" "These days, she claims she doesn’t need to use as much sunblock as her brother. ‘White is a light colour, so it gets dirty fast like my T-shirt; brown is darker, so it doesn’t,'" she added. Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna tied the knot on January 17, 2001.

The couple welcome first child together, a son Araav Kumar on September 15, 2002. Their daughter Nitara Kumar, on September 25, 2012..
