The organizers of the Flip Flop Beach Festival are committed to preserving nature, which is why they decided to move the event, scheduled for June 1st, to a different location. Preparations had already begun when a small local owl or ‘shoco’ nest was discovered near Bushiri Beach. The festival organizers, along with officials from the Aruba Conservation Foundation, came together to find the best solution.
During a press conference on Wednesday, the decision was announced to move the festival to Harbour Arena. Preparations began last week when the nest was discovered. “As responsible organizers, we contacted various authorities to understand the regulations and what needed to be done to protect the shoco nests,” explained Mark-Benson Denz, Media & PR of Elite Empire Entertainment, during the press conference.
The concerned authorities began by setting up ropes to prevent access to the nest and putting up warning signs. They also advised the organizers to install a fence around the area. While these steps were being implemented, the organizers considered further actions.
One alternative was to move the event, but Benson explained that this was somewhat difficult. This was because the setup was already about 80% complete. Additionally, the concept is for a beach festival, and Bushiri Beach was the only available and permitted location for such a recreational event.
Feeling a great sense of responsibility, the organizers consulted with their partners and sponsors. Ultimat.
