Jared Mezzocchi goes the extra mile to make a deeper theater experience. In the case of “Sandra,” the mysterious David Cale play that TheaterWorks Hartford is staging from May 30 through June 23, Mezzocchi went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where the play is set. He shot his own video footage there that will be used in the stage production.

The multimedia-minded Mezzocchi — a Fairfield University graduate who credits a 2006 production of “No Exit” with showing him the unlimited potential of live theater — is now at the forefront of a new theater revolution himself. He has been a part of several previous shows at TheaterWorks Hartford, but “Sandra” marks the first time he’s been at the theater in person. Mezzocchi was a huge contributor to the virtual season of shows TheaterWorks arranged during the COVID shutdown.



Most importantly, he was a key member of the team that premiered Sarah Gancher’s political comedy “Russian Troll Farm,” which received international acclaim as one of the best online theater events of that era. Another success was the interactive virtual piece “Someone Else’s House,” which Mezzocchi wrote and starred in, based on a creepy incident from his childhood. It was seen around the country and had a special TheaterWorks production at Halloween time in 2021.
