THE One Show will have a major schedule shake up TONIGHT to make way for a special episode. The weeknight programme usually airs for 30 minutes from 7pm on BBC One. But tonight's episode has been extended to a full hour for a D-Day special.
Thursday marks the 80th anniversary of the huge moment in history, which saw the start of Allied operations that would ultimately liberate Western Europe, defeat Nazi Germany and end the Second World War. The One Show hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas host the special episode, which will see a group of Royal Navy Wrens who played key roles in the operation be brought together to share their inspirational stories. It will also feature a veteran who gets to see an original Dakota transport aircraft that has been painstakingly restored.
There will also be a performance from singing group The D-Day Darlings, while singer Katherine Jenkins will give a One Big Thank You to a volunteer who gives up her time to help veterans. The One Show will be followed by EastEnders at 8pm, half an hour late than its usual slot. Then another D-Day programme, D-Day 80: Tribute to the Fallen will air from 8.
