There is no way Robyn Nevin will go to see her upcoming movie Sting . The star of stage and screen – who has also directed three of our state theatre companies – is adamant. The horror film is about a monstrous overgrown spider and Nevin has a lifelong fear of even the regular garden variety.

“I’m not good with them,” she says. “All my life, I’ve walked into a room, turned on the light and looked straight over my shoulder at a spider behind me. We live in the Southern Highlands in the country now and I’ve had to become a little more accepting that I share the space with huntsmen and snakes.

Sting is her second recent horror film, following Relic, which traces three generations of a family haunted by a manifestation of dementia that consumes their family’s home.
