Disney is in early development on a sequel to “ The Devil Wears Prada ,” IndieWire has learned, with the 2006 film ’s original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna in talks to write the script. Wendy Finerman is producing the project.

No deals are in place yet, and it’s too early to tell whether any of the original cast will return. But Puck , which first reported the news, says Meryl Streep is expected to reprise her role as the fashion magazine editor-in-chief Priestly. Disney had no comment.



Starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, “The Devil Wears Prada” was an adaptation of the 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger and quickly became a runaway hit, earning nearly $326 million worldwide at the box office against just a $35 million budget. The film follows an aspiring journalist (Hathaway) who takes an assistant position to the tyrannical editor-in-chief (Streep) of one of the premiere fashion magazines in the world. The film perfectly captures the mentor/mentee bond that can form even under toxic circumstances.

Many in the fashion industry were actually afraid to participate with the film for fear of how it aimed to depict their world and the difficult personalities within it.
