THE BOYS showrunner has revealed the new Mexico-set spinoff has hit a major hurdle in its quest to become a series. Actors Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna are producing The Boys : Mexico under their La Corriente del Golfo banner. Last year, Gael, 45, confirmed the spinoff was greenlit, as well as his involvement with it, while speaking with Variety .
The Cassandro star told the outlet, "I'm very excited about what we can do because we can do something very interesting in Latin America." However, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke provided a disappointing update on the upcoming spin-off during an Interview with Entertainment Weekly . "They are still making the deal with the writer for the pilot," he revealed.
Eric added, "He has an amazing pitch, and we all giggle and think about how fun it would be. But there are a lot of hurdles for that show before it's a real show. "He's got to write an amazing pilot, he's probably got to write an amazing episode 2.
I think he can and he will, but we're a while away from truly starting to drop in the Easter eggs and the set-ups and stuff."
