Environmental activists protesting the planned expansion of Tesla’s Germany factory have received a permit to extend their demonstrations , which include living inside forest treehouses where the electric vehicle maker wants to grow its facility. Tesla received approval last week for its plant’s expansion outside of Berlin after revising its original proposal to cut down less than half the number of trees it was going to eliminate. The automaker also promised to plant more trees than it cuts down, according to Electrek .

Potsdam’s Lower Administrative Court was reviewing the protesters’ right to remain in Grünheide outside of Berlin after local police complained the treehouse camp posed a safety threat. The court’s ruling means that neither police nor Tesla can remove the treehouse camp or ban protesters.



Protesters labeled the win a “major victory” while police said they’d review where they went wrong in their case, DW News reports. Robin Wood, the activist group building these tree houses, had expressed concerns about a larger Tesla factory’s water usage and potentially adverse effects on the drinking water protection area.
