More info Tesco is set to reintroduce packs of 12 eggs for its online customers after grappling with a prolonged supply issue. Previously, the UK's largest supermarket chain had replenished its physical stores with the larger cartons of its own-brand eggs, but it's only now that online buyers will no longer be restricted to purchasing two six-packs. This change comes after online customers were left with no choice but to purchase two boxes of six eggs at £1.

50 each, rather than being able to purchase a single dozen for £2.60. The inconvenience caused frustration among consumers, with one voicing their irritation on Mumsnet in January: "Call me cynical, but for the last few months, you are hard pushed to buy a pack of 12 eggs online of any size.

" "All you have is 6-egg boxes which cost a lot more if you want 12, etc." As Tesco gradually reintroduces the 12-egg packs, shoppers may find availability inconsistent, as Tesco.com search results only reflect stock in the customer's local store when logged in, or the retailer's Pitsea Extra store otherwise.

The egg supply shortfall began in autumn 2022, with some producers exiting the industry or scaling down due to escalating costs and diminishing profits. Join the Daily Record's Whats.
