A bride has been roasted online for asking her guests to shell out over £200 each to attend her shower – on top of other costs. The woman, who is getting married at the end of July, was outed by her own cousin. Asking social media users for advice, the guest explains that, as a close relative, she is “expected” to attend the shower and was sent a link to reserve her place at the venue.
But when clicking on it, she was requested to pay a fee. When querying this with the bride, the woman was promptly told that “everyone is paying their own way”. On top of this, the relative has already paid for a very pricey hen do and had to pay out for her own bridesmaid dress, too.
“My cousin is getting married and I am expected to attend her bridal shower at the end of July,” they said. “She sent me a link last week to reserve my spot at the venue. When I went to do it, it required me to pay $300 [£236].
“I asked her about it and she said that everyone is paying their own way. I am beyond annoyed and can’t get over how tacky that is. “Is this a common or normal practice? I am in the bridal party and am expected to attend this thing, not going isn’t an option unfortunately.
“Also it is at a winery and I don’t drink so I’m paying for something that I will not be consuming. To say I’m beyond annoyed is an understatement. Am I justified in feeling this way?” The cousin reveals that she was planning to give the bride $500 [£393] as a wedding gift, as reported.
