For over two years, the Manchester Evening News has been monitoring prices amid the cost of living crisis .

The price comparison looks at eight basic items across six main supermarket chains. In May, the publication revealed that Morrisons was the cheapest option for its groceries . The May analysis looked at a basket of items that included milk, bread, tea bags, coffee, butter, baked beans, chicken breasts and mince.



However, it is now the second most expensive for these products after raising the price of its cheapest Savers tea bags from 79p for a pack of 80 to 89p since last week. This means the cost of the 160 pack size, a size compared at all supermarkets , is now 13 percent more expensive. Lidl remains the most affordable of all the retailers , with a bill of £12.

11, followed closely by Aldi at £12.14 and Asda, which is just pennies behind for the fifth consecutive week, with a bill of £12.18.

Sainsbury's is the fourth cheapest at £12.33, follo.
