Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhán Donaghy bring the saccharine pop of Sugababes to the Iveagh Gardens in Dublin on Friday, July 5th. Sugababes burst on to the music scene in the early 2000s. With perfect pop songs, such as their ingenious cover of Adina Howard’s Freak Like Me , which cleverly sampled the riff from Gary Numan’s Are ‘Friends’ Electric?, Overload and Push the Button, they battled it out with Girls Aloud to be the best pop group of the early 21st century.
However, it was not all plain sailing. Donaghy, who is from Cork , left soon after their first album and the group went through multiple line-up changes in the intervening years. The original line-up re-formed in 2012 as Mutya, Keisha and Siobhán, and have been recording and performing as Sugababes since 2019.
In December 2022, they released The Lost Tapes, an album originally recorded in 2013 which never received an official release. Their most recent single is When the Rain Comes.
