S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration announced that SporTran has been selected to receive $11,169,846 in public transit funding as part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. SporTran is Shreveport’s Transit Management, Inc.



, which is an agency that traces its history of public transportation in Shreveport back over a century. Of 117 grants issued in the country, the state of Louisiana will receive two of them, totaling $16,629,396 from the U.S.

Department of Transportation to improve bus transportation. SporTran will receive $11,169,846; Jefferson Parish Transit will receive $5,459,550 to replace their own aging diesel vehicles. As part of a green energy grant, all of the funds SporTran is receiving from the FTA will be going towards the new buses and will also cover the cost of the amenities and improved technology to better serve the riders and operators.

According to SporTran, this project will reduce maintenance costs and decrease greenhouse gas emissions while improving reliability and timeliness for the riders.
