Akshay Kumar's 150th film Sarfira hit the theatres on July 12. The film directed by Sudha Kongara Prasad, also starred Radhikka Madan, Paresh Rawal, Seema Biswas, Anil Charanjeett, and Prakash Belawadi. The inspiring film which was not promoted much by the makers, has shown growth due to positive word-of-mouth.

On day 1, the film collected Rs 2.5 crore while on day 2, the film showed 70% growth and earned Rs 4.25 crore.



On day 3, the film showed 23.53 percent growth and collected Rs 5.25 crore in India.

The story is based on the life of the entreprenuer Captain GR Gopinath, who founed India's first low-cost airline Air Deccan. Both Sarfira and Soorarai Pottru are directed by Sudha Kongara.

The Tamil film was headlined by Suriya, who has also co-produced the Hindi remake under its banner 2D Entertainment and is also seen in a cameo appearance in Sarfira. It starred Aparna Balamurali as the leading lady and Paresh Rawal, who reprised his role in its Hindi remake. Soorarai Pottru won five National Film Awards for Best Feature Film, Best Actor to Suriya, Best Actress to Aparna, Best Screenplay, and Best Background Score.
