A Ryanair passenger has warned Brits to avoid a simple mistake that could see them stung with an extra charge. Ryanair, known for its budget-friendly prices, can end up costing more than premium airlines like British Airways and TUI if you overlook an important step during booking. To help people avoid this, Birmingham Live reporter, Emily Chaplin, shared her experience of how several passengers incurred avoidable extra fees.

This happened whilst she was boarding a Ryanair plane from Birmingham Airport to Tenerife. At the front of the passport queue, one woman's encounter with Ryanair's luggage rules turned costly and she was told to place her suitcase into the measuring box. When it didn't fit, she was told: "You'll have to pay £46 to bring the bag on board".

The passenger protested, "But I was allowed this last time I flew with Ryanair". Emily witnessed a strict enforcement of Ryanair's luggage policy. She said: "Every other person appeared to be getting pulled from the queue to test whether their bag fit the allowance on their booking.

I knew Ryanair had stingy luggage limits - I'd bought an exactly-the-right-size backpack from Amazon, which was a snip at £24.99, to avoid paying extra to upgrade and spent ages rolling up all of my clothes to squeeze in five days worth. I've travelled with Ryanair plenty of times before but I'd never seen the rule so vehemently enforced.
