A couple were left furious when a recent flight set them back €140 (£119.31) after receiving a luggage fine despite purchasing 'Ryanair approved' bags. David C and his wife were travelling from Palma Majorca Airport, in Spain back to Manchester, UK, when they were slapped with a hefty luggage fine - despite having forked out for special compliant bags.

The couple, who had enjoyed a stress-free holiday in Majorca, were met with unhelpful and disgruntled staff at the Ryanair gate at Palma Airport, they claimed. The gate agent then told the couple that their bags were too big. The partners, from Cheshire, were told they would have to pay €70.00 (£59.

65) per bag - the member of staff suggesting they'd pay as the couple "probably want to be on the flight". According to David, the staff member added: "Nineteen years in the business and I know when a bag is oversized. I can see it from a mile away.
