Gavin and Stacey's actress and co-creator, Ruth Jones, joined Jamie Theakston and Davina McCall on Heart FM's Breakfast Show this morning. She was there to discuss her role in the musical Sister Act and, naturally, the much-anticipated Christmas special of the BBC sitcom. Ruth, 57, who portrays Nessa Jenkins, confessed that despite the buzz around the upcoming Gavin and Stacey reunion, set to air on Christmas Day this year, she's "not thinking about [it] yet".
She explained to Jamie and Davina that she and Uncle Bryn star Rob Brydon, 59, are trying to savour the present moment before the show returns. She stated: "We're not filming it for a while, and when you reach our age, this is what Rob and I were saying, when you reach our age, when you've got less time ahead of you than you've got behind you, you have to enjoy the day and just live in the moment." "So, yes, there's this gorgeous time ahead of us where we're all going to get together again and film Gavin and Stacey, and be down in Barry Island and then, hopefully, it will all go well and it will come out on Christmas Day, and that will be great! "But it is in the future - so I'm kind of going, I'm so enjoying Sister Act at the moment that I'm kind of, like, not thinking about Gavin and Stacey - which might sound a bit weird !" Ruth's confession comes shortly after James Corden, who plays her character's on-screen romantic partner, Smithy, featured on BBC Radio 2's The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show.
