Julie Etchingham hosts Sunak v Starmer TV debate ITV has been slapped with hundreds of Ofcom complaints over the Sunak v Starmer debate. Last Tuesday (June 6), the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Labour party leader Keir Starmer went head-to-head in a heated clash over how to boost Britain's economy, tackling subjects from the NHS, immigration and the cost of living . Their clash saw both leaders fiercely debate whether Labour would raise taxes by £2,000.

The debate, hosted by Julie Etchingham, sparked fury as 686 viewers rushed to the broadcasting regulator to complain. Complaints made related to a variety of issues, including Mr Sunak’s claim that Labour’s plans would mean £2,000 of tax rises per working household going unchallenged. Mr Sunak's amount of air time led to 219 viewers complaining, while the nature of a question regarding the ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza sparked 161 complaints.

Sir Keir said Mr Sunak's £2,000 claim was "absolute garbage", pointing out that the tax burden has risen to the highest level in 70 years under the Tories . Later, Mr Sunak was laughed at for claiming NHS waiting lists were coming down, blaiming industrial action on the backlog.
