Viewers of Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer's first head-to-head clash of the General Election campaign were left distracted by a huge blunder. The Prime Minister took part in the very first TV debate of the General Election. The hour-long ITV leader's debate was moderated by Julie Etchingham, who also hosted the televised events in the last three national polls.

Sunak and Starmer faced questions in front of a live audience on all the major issues of the day. However, many viewers were distracted by Sunak's X account which posted while he was live on TV. One social media pointed out: " How are you tweeting when you’re meant to be in the middle of a debate on tv lol.



" Journalist Ava Santina added: "Aren’t u on tele." The official account for Sunak posted a photo of Starmer that read: "We will raise specific taxes, Keir Starmer ." It was captioned: "You heard it.

We heard it. #ITVDebate." Under the post, social media users mocked the PM as he appeared on TV at the same time.

Someone said: "Wait a minute! How are you tweeting when you're on telly? It's not actually you is it?" Another joked: "It’s @trussliz doing it on his behalf." While a user pointed out: "He obviously doesn’t write his own tweets but this was during the break tbf." In his opening pitch to voters on ITV, Sunak sought to draw dividing lines with Labour as he claimed the party would “raid” pension pots and hike taxes.

Sir Keir questioned the timing of the July 4 vote, arguing Sunak had called a summer po.
