legend Richard M. Sherman - the musician who penned for , The Jungle Book and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - has died at 95. The Walt Disney Co.

confirmed the star's death due to age-related illness. The company website said: "Generations of moviegoers and theme park guests have been introduced to the world of Disney through the Sherman brothers' magnificent and timeless songs. Even today, the duo's work remains the quintessential lyrical voice of Walt Disney.



" Richard wrote over 150 songs for Disney projects, including entire soundtracks for movies like The Aristocrats, The Jungle Book, The Parent Trap, and more. The gifted writer worked alongside his equally talented late brother Robert who died in 2012 at the age of 86. Together they became awarded and decorated composers, 23 gold and platinum albums, National Medal of Arts from President George W.

Bush, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The brother became estranged for a number of years, but still kept in kind spirits about the other. Richard Sherman told AP in a 2005 interview: "We've been doing it all our lives.

Practically since college we've been working together." The pair directly worked with Walt Disney prior to his death. Richard said: "He once told us, early on in our career, 'Don't insult the kid - don't write down to the kid.

And don't write just for the adult.' So we write for grandpa and the 4-year-old - and everyone in between - and all see it on a different level." Richard Sherman is survived by his wife.
