It’s funny where life takes you — just ask Adelaide Kane. When she was a little girl growing up in Claremont, she wanted to be a doctor or nurse. The acting classes her mum signed her up for were just a hobby; a fun way for a spirited child to burn off some excess energy.

But through a series of fortunate events, sparked by a teenage talent quest that now feels surreal to look back on, Kane is now firmly ensconced in Hollywood — and a starring role on Grey’s Anatomy, the world’s longest-running and most-loved primetime medical drama, with millions of viewers around the globe. When Kane speaks to STM, she is holed up in the spare room at her mum’s house in Perth, nursing a cold. It’s a quick trip home during a break from filming the iconic series and the 33-year-old has been channelling her energy into organising the pantry and fridge.
