Taylor’s Swifties and Minister for Public Expenditure Paschal Donohoe have backed calls for the creation of a special fanzone within the capital to mark the singer’s trio of concerts at the Aviva Stadium later this month. Dublin City Council (DCC) has incurred the wrath of ‘Swifties’ – the ardent followers of the $1.3billion (€1.
2bn) star – after it ruled out setting up a dedicated zone within the city to cater for fans. Pressure has mounted on the council after the prominent Dubliner made his comments. Dublin City councillor Mannix Flynn told the Irish Mail on Sunday his home town should emulate Liverpool, which will transform into ‘Taylor Town’ for the singer’s three concerts in the city next weekend.
Mr Flynn said the concerts are a unique opportunity to promote ‘the original Swiftie’, the author and cleric Jonathan Swift, and told the MoS this week that the council ‘simply cannot do nothing’. Mr Donohoe yesterday said the ‘creation of a fanzone close to the Aviva Stadium would be welcomed by all Swifties and would be a great addition to the city’. But he added: ‘While advocating for it, I, myself will leave the fanzone to the younger devotees and will enjoy the show from inside.
’ The minister this week told our sister paper, the Irish Daily Mail: ‘I am sure the fan experience in Dublin will easily match any place else in the world...
I am sure plans are under way to welcome Swifties from all over the world to Dublin.’ Some Swifties .
