Sam Heughan reveals the souvenir he'll take from Outlander set Outlander star Richard Rankin has revealed his character Roger MacKenzie’s first encounter with Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan ) could have been too brutal for viewers. Fans of the hit Starz series will remember the moment fondly from the fourth season, shortly after Roger follows Jamie’s daughter Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) back to the 18th Century. Roger is mistakenly identified as Brianna’s attacker following a horrific assault, and her father Jamie immediately beats him senseless when they stumble across each other outside Fraser’s Ridge.

He’s then left for dead in the forest before Jamie realises his mistake and Roger is welcomed into the family. Although many viewers would have been watching the violent scene through their fingers, Richard revealed Jamie’s attack was initially even more ruthless.
