Christopher Lloyd, best known for his role as Doc Brown in the Back to the Future movies – along with roles in everything from The Addams Family to Who Framed Roger Rabbit – actually popped up as Grandad in a US pilot of Only Fools, which never really took off. The US pilot was set to air on ABC in the States, but proved so terrible it was never shown.
Titled Kings of Van Nuys, the episode would have featured Moulin Rouge star John Leguizamo as Del Trotter, True Blood’s BJ Bales as Trigger and Dustin Ybarra as Donnie Trotter. The official synopsis for the pilot promises: “The misadventures of two streetwise brothers and their aging grandfather as they concoct outrageous, morally questionable get-rich-quick schemes in their quest to become millionaires.” But on IDMb, the episode has an average rating of just 2.
