Blankets & Wine announced a new date for the July edition after potential security threats saw the festival rethink their Sunday, July 7 initial date. Announcing the need for the move, CEO Muthoni the Drummer Queen maintained the coincidence with ‘The New Saba Saba’ theme and security concerns necessitated the postponement. Another contributing factor could have been the Shujaaz Memorial Concert that also happened on Sunday 7 at Uhuru Park that saw thousands of Kenyan youth throng the CBD to pay homage to the innocent lives lost owing to brutal state killings of peaceful protesters in the last 3 weeks.

“We bear heavy news that after extensive consultations, we do not have the necessary security clearance to proceed with Blankets & Wine this coming Sunday. Due to the politically charged nature of 7th July, there is potential significant threat to life and property including but not limited to road closures, flash protests, infiltration after dusk, among others,” Read the announcement in part. Sanaipei Tande, Nikita Kering, Bensoul, Savara, Yaba, Dagoz Nomads and Samthing Soweto will take to the stage at Laureate Gardens on July 28.
