Nicki Minaj was detained while leaving Amsterdam on her Pink Friday 2 World Tour, with authorities claiming that she had marijuana in her luggage. The rapper documented much of the experience on her social media, including footage of her being placed in a police vehicle holding cell. In a video she shared on Instagram Live, she spoke with a policeman who claimed that she was in possession of drugs.
“I’m not carrying drugs,” says Minaj in the clip. “I’m not going in there, I need a lawyer present. I need a lawyer present now.
Where am I going?” The policeman responded that she had to go to the police station, and that they would work with her to get her to her next show in Manchester. “What am I doing? Oh so I’m under arrest? Under arrest for what?” she said. As authorities asked her to stop filming, she was placed in the vehicle holding cell.
Though it’s unclear what occurred at the police station, Minaj was reportedly released from detainment and fans on social media showed that she arrived in Manchester for her concert this evening at Co-Op Live. Minaj’s representatives did not respond when contacted by Variety for comment. Minaj took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the situation in real time.
She states that they took her luggage to search without her consent, and refused to let her see her own bags. “They’re being paid big money to try to sabotage my tour b/c soooooo many ppl are mad that it’s this successful & they can’t eat off me,” sh.
