An expert has warned foodies that they should never cook bacon in an air fryer - and stressed that it could have a smelly result. Air fryers have become an adored household item, with people swapping out their beloved ovens or grills for them instead. But not every piece of food is meant to be cooked in the ovens and bacon is one example.

According to dietitian Brenda Peralta, the high-fat content can leave an unpleasant odour and cause a lot of mess. And most seriously, cooking bacon in an air fryer could cause smoke. She told Huffington Post: “It is a fatty food, and when it is cooked in an air fryer, the fat can drip down and cause smoke or splatter.

This can make the bacon difficult to cook evenly, and it can also produce a lot of smoke and odours." She further explained that the end result doesn't usually look nice to the eye and said it is hard to keep bacon together in one piece. "A bacon strip is a small and delicate food, and it can be difficult to flip or remove from the air fryer basket without breaking it," she added.

Another thing to consider is that bacon cannot be cooked at a large capacity with an air fryer. The expert continued: "The air fryer basket may not be large enough to accommodate a large quantity of bacon. This can make it difficult to cook a lot of bacon at once, which can be inconvenient if you are cooking for a group.

" However, Brenda did suggest that Brussels sprouts, roast potatoes, breaded chicken and falafel are great foods to use the applia.
