Spice Girl Mel B has been handed an unwanted birthday present by her ex-husband Stephen Belafonte, a £5million defamation lawsuit. The film producer is suing the singer claiming she “engaged in a deliberate and wide-ranging campaign to cause him severe emotional distress and destroy his reputation”. Mel’s 10-year marriage to the American ended in 2018, and in her memoir Brutally Honest she claimed she suffered abuse, which he denies.
But a source close to the singer said last night: “It’s a cruel continuation of his abuse and it’s no coincidence it’s her birthday today. But nothing surprises people when it comes to his behaviour.” Belafonte alleges Mel began her “long-brewing harassment” in 2017 with “fraudulent” domestic violence claims.

As a result of Ms Brown’s false allegations of rape, illegal gun possession, sex trafficking, production of illegal pornography, domestic battery and child endangerment, Mr Belafonte lost access to his home and children.” In the legal papers, Belafonte includes texts purportedly sent between Mel and Geri Halliwell that allegedly show her “true intentions are to leverage her charitable appeal for further sales, celebrity and opportunity.
