Recording artiste Mehka says she has the full support of her family as she aims to establish herself as a dancehall darling, even though she has a first-class honours law degree. In her recent single, Earn It , she explores her "softer" side which she said many of her former naysayers are now accepting. "Mi nuh just have di bad gyal side, I'm soft as well in other ways.
Earn It is just like a nice, sweet love song expressing what a man has to do to earn the love from a woman," she explained. "A lot of people thinks that it's like a new style and saying 'Oh, she's listening to us' but I recorded this song like two years ago. It was one of my first recordings, but I held on to it until the time is right, which is now," Mehka told THE STAR .
The single, which was released last Friday, has been attracting many "unusually positive comments" as fans are saying the Pretty Devil singer has found her sound and should stick to it. "I like this type of music and sound as well but I also like deejaying, and it's not like I have to do one specific thing [because] I have a lot of unreleased songs and whole heap a dem is like hardcore deejay stuff. But I also have a lot of proper singing songs," she said.
The University of West London graduate said that though obtaining a law degree with honours, her family is open to her choice to do music. "My mom is very supportive in whatever I do because I always sang to her when I was little and told her to come and watch my little show," she giggled .
