The reality TV star's death was announced on 30 June in a social media post shared by his MAFS co-stars. More details surrounding Andrew's death have now been shared by his father.
The 33 year old had been on remand at Mt Eden Corrections Facility in Auckland at the time of his passing. Andrew was arrested on 2 April and was allegedly facing charges that included "assault with intent to injure, wilful damage and possession of an offensive weapon". He died hours before he was due to appear in court.
Medical and emergency staff tried desperately to save the MAFS star, the New Zealand Herald reports. Andrew's father told the publication his family had grown concerned for his mental state prior to the court hearing. His father Roy told the publication: "It should have been a red flag when Andy stopped communicating with family and friends.
I and Andy’s extended family and friends are deeply saddened and bewildered by this distressing event." Andrew appeared on the New Zealand edition of Married At First Sight in 2017. He was matched with Vicky Gleeson-Stokes, but the pair's relationship ended after filming wrapped.
