Luke Bryan says he and his fellow American Idol judge Katy Perry had an emotional farewell when she made her exit from the hit singing compeition show . The country singer told GMA at CMA Fest 2024 about how he and Lionel Richie had a "really emotional" and "perfect" goodbye with Perry, who has judged alongside them for the past seven seasons. "Everybody thinks we're gonna go out and stand on barstools and spray champagne over everybody, but we just had a chill dinner," Bryan said of the aftermath of Season 22.

"It was a perfect way to wrap the season and to wrap, certainly, Katy's tenure with us, and it was really special." American Idol still has yet to announce Perry's replacement, but Bryan says they need to have certain qualities to succeed.



"Oh, gosh. Tolerate me and Lionel, first and foremost," he joked, later adding: "Whoever you are, just be on time." Bryan also advised the soon-to-be newcomer: "Just have fun with it and don't treat it like a job.

Treat it like something you love." Meanwhile, Richie agreed with Bryan's points while adding that he wants someone confident . In an interview with USA Today , he gave pointers about what traits he is certain an America.
