Added late to the Bulldog event schedule is Friday's "Battle of the Bands" fundraiser for a Crown Point-based organization called My Way 2 Work, with the proceeds from this event going towards the building of a new facility for people with special needs, with a focus on those with autism. Friday's event will feature four young Region bands of various styles and genres competing for a 4 hour recording studio package from The Spot Recording Studio and other prizes. Participating bands are FloodPlane, Lola Bunnie, Thourn and Departure, each showcasing their original music in mini-sets lasting 15 to 20 minutes.
A trio of veterans of the music industry will serve as judges, with a portion of the scores including audience response and applause. FloodPlane is a three-piece grunge/punk band from Cedar Lake formed in 2021 who has started to make a name for itself by playing local fests and fundraisers. Lola Bunnie is a brand new Crown Point rock trio that drummer Aiden Hetler-Rogers described as a little bit of everything.
The four-piece group Thourn also hails from Crown Point and is one of the heavy side musical groups and their alt-metal sound has landed them on stage at places like Cubby Bear and Hobart Art Theater. Departure is a three year old band whose music is the heavier side of heavy metal, tapping into the sub-genres of melodic death metal and thrash. They released an original music EP in late 2023 titled, "The Art of Ruin.
" Although the event has come together rather quic.
