Customers who purchased the Dark and Lovely Moisture Plus Kits (Regular and Super) and Dark and Lovely Anti-Breakage Kit have been urged to return the shampoo inside the kits. In a statement shared on Friday, the National Consumer Commission's (NCC) Deputy Commissioner Thezi Mabuza disclosed that a quality control check revealed bacteria in the shampoo. The statement further explained that the bacteria may lead to scalp infections in those with compromised immune systems.
Mabuza further urged any South Africans still possessing the single-use shampoo to return the product for a refund. "While this is single-use shampoo, we urge South Africans who might still have these products in their possession to stop use and return to the point of purchase for a full refund." The NCC also took to X with photos of the product in question.
The shampoo was produced in April 2023, distributed nationally, and exported to neighbouring countries such as Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Kenya, Ghana, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Morocco, and Nigeria..
