A NEWCOMER is set to ruffle feathers in Coronation Street - with a soap star taking on the role. Actress Carol Royle, who appeared in ITV soap Crossroads, is making her way to Coronation Street as a new character with links to Joel Deering (Calum Lil). She is taking on the role of Anthea Deering, Joel's disapproving mother.
Anthea arrives in Weatherfield to meet her son’s girlfriend, DeeDee (Channique Sterling-Brown) at the bistro. Unfortunately, the pair’s meeting doesn’t end well, as their conversation leads to an angry DeeDee running out after sharp-tongued Anthea comments on her family. Carol's other television work includes appearances in multiple episodes of Casualty , Doctors and The Bill , playing different characters in various episodes of all three shows.
She also portrayed Lady Patricia Brewster in four episodes of Heartbeat and Jenny Russell in BBC sitcom Life Without George. Her new character Anthea's entrance into Weatherfield comes as DeeDee is currently the lawyer advocating for Roy Cropper (David Neilson). The beloved café owner has been arrested and charged with the disappearance and alleged murder of missing teenager Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), his former employee.
Lauren vanished in February , with viewers and characters alike left clueless as to what happened to her. While eager fans will finally learn the answers of Lauren's disappearance this week, various theories have been suggested in the meantime. One puts none other than Joel into the firi.
