This is a week of septuagenarian female pop superstars with Bonnie Raitt in Bridgeport and Stevie Nicks at Mohegan Sun. It is also a week of diverse musical blends including As We Speak at The Bushnell and Monsieur Periné at Toad’s Place, as well as the Connecticut Early Music Festival in Stonington and rap, pop and cartoon songs played outdoors in Bushnell Park by the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. That’s a lot of one-of-a-kind shows, and it’s only the tip of the iceberg when you add Namoli Brennet, Haley Heynderickx, Tank, Feid, The Living Deads, Rob49 and others.
Along with the Out Film CT festival and the Internation Festival of Arts & Ideas , the summer arts season is off to a sensational start. The weeks-long Connecticut Early Music Festival ends June 16, performing at several different venues. “Early music” generally means music from the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque eras, often played on period instruments.
This week there are two concerts: Seven Times Salt on Sunday at 5 p.m at the LaGrua Center in Stonington and the Lute Song Trio of the Baltimore Consort on June 15 at 5 p.m.
