THE last ever Gavin and Stacey will be bringing back a huge character for the Christmas special. The creators of the smash hit comedy - James Corden and Ruth Jones - are said to be in talks with one of the show’s most iconic guest stars. Actress Sheridan Smith is reportedly in “informal discussions” about reprising her role of Ruth ‘Rudi’ Smith.

An insider told the Sunday Mirror : “The script for Gavin & Stacey: The Finale includes all of the show’s major players - including Smithy’s sister Rudi. “Nothing has been signed and conversations are still very much ongoing - especially as the filming date has not been set. “But all of the stops are being pulled out to make sure the whole cast are there, and in the coming weeks the production team hope to pin down everyone’s availability.

“Sheridan and James are still friendly - they recently bumped into each other at the Variety Club Awards and got on really well. So the hope is that she will be able to be part of it.” Sheridan’s character did not appear in the 2019 Christmas special but the hopes are that she will reprise her role for the show’s big goodbye.

Hit BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacey was co-created and written by James and Ruth , who also starred as Smithy and Nessa, the respective best friends of the titular couple Gavin (Matthew Horne) and Stacey (Joanna Page). The series ran from 2007 to 2010, with its first Christmas special airing on BBC One in 2008. However, it returned almost a decade late.
