Kate Garraway says she is taking things "one step at a time" as she begins to move on after her husband Derek's death - and wants to "celebrate life" long term. The Good Morning Britain star, 58, has been trying to get her life back on track this year. Former political advisor and author Derek Draper died on January 3 after battling the severe effects of the coronavirus for over three years which damaged all his major organs.
He and Kate had been married for 19 years. Speaking at a charity ball, mother-of-two Kate said: "I'm just at that early stage at the moment of coming out of grief. I'm just barely holding it together.
I haven't actually been out that much. So it's nice to come out tonight. Derek passed away so recently, so it's just one step at a time.
" Kate, who is mother to Darcey, 18, and Billy, 14, also said she was trying to make the most of life going forward. She told Closer magazine: "I really can't believe I'm hurtling towards 60. I'm very much celebrating life now.
Whatever the age." As well as her GMB TV job and working on Smooth Radio, she is also looking forward to hosting a new series of Life Stories on ITV . She added: "I'm very excited.
There are so many people I'd love to have on the show. But the current lineup is a secret so you will have to wait and see." In May the Mirror told how Kate had turned to gardening to help with her grief.
She attended the Chelsea Flower Show with her parents and then began work on her own London garden. Speaking on Instagr.
