Kani Kusruti who led Payal Kapadia's Cannes-winning film All We Imagine as Light, recently got trolled for her red carpet appearance at the event. The actress was seen carrying a watermelon clutch to show solidarity with Palestinians. During an interview with India Today she opened up about her decision to make a political statement and said she had been grappling with a sense of feeling hopeless.

The actress revealed whenever she feels happy, the guilt about what is going on in the world affects her. She added, "Since last year, so many things have been going on, and I have been grappling with a sense of hopelessness. Honestly, I wasn't sure if I would be able to join the team for Cannes.



When it happened, I was excited but I did not want to be completely indulged in that happiness, given the world was not in the right state." She then spoke to her stylish and decided to make a political statement at the red carpet. Talking about the clutch she added, "I found this clutch while we were still figuring out if we could embroider something on the outfit, put on a brooch, or paint the Gaza map.

And since we were all wearing solid on that particular day, I picked up a white dress that added to the colour of the Palestine map." About the mixed reaction on the clutch she added, "Honestly, this hasn't happened for the first time. I am used to it.
