Joy-Anna Duggar and husband Austin Forsyth shared a traumatic incident that happened to their 13-month-old son, Gunner , last week. The former Counting On star recalled the harrowing experience in a YouTube video posted on Friday. Gunner had "bitten off more than he could chew" during a family meal and immediately started choking," Joy-Anna said.
The 26-year-old recalled, "I just handed Gunner to Austin and I started crying. All those what-ifs come to your mind right away. [Gunner] threw up multiple times [and] still hadn't thrown up the ham and was gagging and was not breathing for, like, 20 seconds.
" With Austin being an EMT, the couple decided to drive an hour to the local hospital. On the way there, Gunner stopped breathing a couple more times. "I was just crying out to God, 'Please save him,'" an emotional Joy-Anna recounted.
"I've never been to a point where I thought I was going to lose one of my kids. It was just like that thought of, 'He is going to die' came to my mind, and it was terrifying." Thankfully, Gunner started breathing regularly again before they arrived at the hospital.
Doctors performed X-rays showing his clear airway, and he was discharged. "I was just so thankful that God protected him, and we made it to the hospital and that whatever was in his throat wasn't bothering him anymore," Joy-Anna said, calling it "a roller-coaster of emotions." The mother of three said the ordeal was a reminder to "just really hug your babies a little bit tighter and thank.
