The children, aged seven to 12, have collected about 20 bags of garbage over the past week that washed up since last fall. This weekend, they hope to clean up areas they were unable to from the shoreline.

Litter has been collected from Sixteen Mile Creek, roadsides, under QEW bridges and around Niagara Rowing School. “We started doing those areas last fall and pulled 44 bags out and, unfortunately, we went back to check it this spring and it was almost as bad as it was before,” she said.
“It looks like it’ll be an annual event for us, but we’re happy to do it because people are trying to help. But there’s so much being left — plastic waste and worm containers — it’s probably going to be our job forever now.” Currie said the children have received positive feedback and.
