Joey Essex could face criminal charges due to the alleged mismanagement of his personal company, Joey Essex Management Ltd. The Love Island star's firm is in a pickle as it hasn't filed accounts for four years and is at risk of being struck off. It's a crime not to file accounts on time, typically nine months after the end of a business's financial year.
However, Joey Essex Management, which lists Joey, 33, as the sole director and overall controller, last filed accounts up to June 2018. According to Companies House records, its accounts are significantly overdue. The 2019 accounts should have been posted by March 2020, meaning they're four years and three months late.
The Sun reports that the accounts for 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 have not been filed either. However, Joey's accountants are confident everything is in order. The law states that a director can be personally fined and receive a criminal record for not filing accounts on time.
The penalty for not filing in the first year is £1,500, which doubles for the second year and continues to increase. If the offending firm persists, it'll be struck off and the director could be disqualified. Insiders claimed Joey is fortunate that his company hasn't been dissolved earlier given its tardiness with its accounts.
The reason for this is unknown, especially since the firm had a healthy set of figures in its last account six years ago, with £458,788 in reserves. The Gov.uk site cautions: "Not filing your confirmation statemen.
