Douglas is Cancelled: Madeline shares uncomfortable talk with Toby Douglas Is Cancelled fans were left cringing by a "creepy" twist on the new ITV drama , with some saying that they were "struggling to watch". The show returned for it's third episode , starring Karen Gillan as Madeline and Hugh Bonneville as Douglas. The "uncomfortable" episode delved into the timeline of Douglas’s working relationship with Madeline, rewinding to her first encounter with him at a book signing while she was at university and fast-forwarding to her interview for the job at Live 6.

It showed the walls closing in on her as the interview was held in a hotel suite by producer Toby (Ben Miles). Her dread continued to rise as the questions intensified and the air grew heavier. Toby kept offering her an alcoholic drink, placed a do not disturb sign on the door and began undressing in front of Madeline as he ran a bath.

The character was clearly feeling panicked as his inappropriate behaviour continued and he told her to speak about women's rights. ITV admitted themselves that it was an "uncomfortable" watch as they posted to X (formerly Twitter ), saying: "We're not supposed to have favourites..
