LSU wide receivers coach Mickey Joseph takes the field before kickoff against ULM, Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Tiger Stadium on the campus of LSU in Baton Rouge, La. At 56 years old, Mickey Joseph has gone from a Parade All-American quarterback to journeyman coach in his career, which includes 11 college assistant stops. He insisted his new gig as the head coach at Grambling isn’t a “steppingstone” but the place he wants to be partly because he’s on the “back nine of his profession.

” Joseph, a Marrero native who starred at Shaw High School, takes over after the Tigers spent two years under former NFL head coach Hue Jackson. He will try to turn the Tigers' fortunes around after four consecutive losing seasons and a 12-25 record. “I would tell those people to mind their business because they don’t know what happened,” Joseph said at SWAC media day Tuesday.

“I could’ve went to another Power Five (school), but to say I’m using this as a steppingstone? No. “This is the only job I would have taken because of the national prestige and the brand. I know I can go pull players in there and it was a chance to get back into Louisiana.

I had an opportunity to stay in a Power Five conference, but I wanted to be a head coach and I needed to be a head coach. I’m on the back nine of this profession.” Joseph does have a significant history in the SWAC with three previous stints, including two years at Grambling (2014-15).

He’s also coached at LSU, Tulane and.
