AN Irish music festival with huge acts has been cancelled just a week before the event. The organisers of Wild Roots announced yesterday that the much-loved Sligo event will not be going ahead. The festival was due to take place on the June bank holiday weekend on Friday, May 31 to Monday, June 3, at Hazelwood Demesne, Sligo.
Singer Damien Dempsey, DJ Hannah Wants, Aslan , Block Rockin' Beats, The Academic and JyellowL among many others were meant to be performing at the family friendly festival. The Wild Roots organisers have sincerely apologised to music fans for the sudden announcement and said the decision was "beyond their control". Taking to Instagram , they explained: "Dear Wildlings, it is with a heavy heart that we have to announce the cancellation of Wild Roots 2024.
"Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are unable to proceed with this year's event. "Please know, we have done everything in our power to make it happen, but unfortunately, it is not possible now." The organisers said they are "heartbroken" after "working extremely hard over five years" during many obstacles including covid and the cost of living crisis.
They added: "We want to thank the most creative, hardworking and dedicated team for being part of the Wild Roots family and for sticking by us against all odds through the last five years who helped make Wild Roots happen. "We want to extend our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for being part of the Wild Roots family. "Your enthusia.
