A new Irish bar featuring two stages will take over a beloved city centre venue that closed after 22 years in business. In January 2023, Font Bar on New Wakefield Street announced it would be shutting down after being impacted by the pandemic and the cost of living crisis. The venue was popular with students for its cheap offers, including £3 cocktails, with regulars describing its closure as the ‘end of an era’.

More than a year on from its closure, the venue is now set to reopen as new owners revamp it into live music venue and Irish bar Mother Mary’s, which aims to serve as a prime spot for new and upcoming artists and DJs to perform. Serving some of Manchester’s best beers, wines, ciders and craft ales, there will also be a dedicated cocktail menu which will include a special £2 cocktail called ‘The Font’, in honour of the site’s former resident.
