A former cop turned global music icon , Omar Samuel Pasley, famously known as Omi, reminisced about the pivotal moment his career skyrocketed while he was still on police duty. Celebrating a decade since his smash hit 'Cheerleader' topped charts in 20 countries including the US and the UK, Omi shared his journey from law enforcement to international stardom. The 37-year-old served in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) for three years, a period during which he nurtured his community and secretly honed his musical craft.

Now preparing for an anniversary tour later this year, the 'Hula Hoop' singer reflected on his dual life back then in an interview with Daily Star. He said: "It was a very exciting journey. As a police officer, I learned a lot of life lessons and I've been able to incorporate in my present career.

There is the sense of duty to your country that's first and and foremost but also sense of purpose. That in itself was rather gratifying for me.

" Omi continued: "But I was always doing music. Even now we're always working on new music. We're going to be releasing a few more singles early next year leading up to an album.

And I'm celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Cheerleader. Can you believe.
